As of today, November 8th, 2021, Eric Oakley will no longer represent Dynamic Discs. Announced on his and his wife’s YouTube channel, Whale Pants, Eric talked about all the great things disc golf and Dynamic Discs has allowed him to do, including going to Europe and having a signature disc, the Felon.

n I’ve had a lot of long conversations with Jeremy Rusco, Eric McCabe, and Gabe Diaz-Serrano, and we’ve talked a lot of the future. Talked about my goals, their goals. The things we’re trying to do and feel out how we can make things work. We’ve come together, as a business decision that we think it’s best to explore new ground. … I cannot thank them enough!n Eric Oakley of Whale Sacs n Eric Oakleyn Disc Golfern https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnBY8AbELqQ

Two things really stand out to me from this. First, I was a little surprised given his involvement with Dynamic Discs and that his contract goes through 2022. This is not a person I would have thought to switch companies.

And second there was no mention of a new sponsor; though I’m sure Whale Sacs (his wife’s company) will still sponsor him. While Eric Oakley isn’t going to win a ton of tournaments for the company, his personality and style are a unique draw wherever he goes.

There is one rather interesting “conspiracy theory” from redditor u/ConfusionPossible. He states that Eric couldn’t get any this year. As team captain for Dynamic Discs he’s been trying to sign players for the last few years and just didn’t deliver.   u/Albatrasser added that Dynamic Discs could be making “salary cap” space for a bigger name or two.

I think if a big top 20 or so player signs to the Dynamic Discs team it’ll make a lot more sense. Only time will tell what Dynamic Discs has in store for the upcoming. What do you think is going to happen to Eric Oakley? Let me know in the comments below or on twitter @JoesDiscGolf
